Blessings of Christmas Celebration
Dec. 18th., MMV
I wish to thank the members and their Pastor, Rev. Jimmy R. O'Bryant, for giving me the opportunity of creative expression in designing and decorating of the Lower Peach Tree United Methodist Church’s Christmas Celebration. This entrusted task could not have been achieved had I not first sought council with Our Heavenly Father. My thoughts were not connected until prayer gave forth with answers of inspiration. I thank God each day for my parents though both deceased, my creative talents, His many blessings and unending love. I am only the instrument of His bidding.
I feel sure you are wondering what ever could an old historical church, with a handful of members, located in rural Wilcox County offer you this Holy Season. Come, let us travel to Lower Peach Tree and experience the delights waiting there. Upon approaching the church, rising aloft over fifty feet, shines forth the Star of Bethlehem guiding you to your destination.

In the crib you find a tree, smaller than the two flanking it. The one on the right, the largest of the three, represents God The Father, the Almighty. While on the left we see a smaller version, this represents The Holy Spirit. However, let us focus on the crib between the two, for here begins the explanation of our Celebration. The swaddling cloths wrapped about this tree symbolizing the Child Jesus at birth, the Savior of the world, rise upward to the Cross, the cross borne for our sins. This cloth, in turn becomes His shroud after being taken down from the cross and placed in the tomb. The poinsettias upon the cross and cloth represent His blood spilled for the sins of the world. Always keep the cross in your mind for this represents not the end of life, but rather the beginning of everlasting life.

As you enter the sanctuary you notice wreaths everywhere, circles of unending love. Above the pulpit you are drawn to three five foot wreaths. These represent the Most Blessed Holy Trinity. On the right with the halo is God, The Father. On the left with the dove is the Holy Spirit. The beautiful stained glass window in the center is our Lord, the Christ. The motion of the lights remind us, He is only a heartbeat away. See, His eye always watching over us, offering hope. The candles in the wreaths are in anticipation of His arrival, The Light
of the world. Red flowers represent lasting love, the love He gives us all.
My thanks to those supporting me in this most enjoyable and rewarding endeavor: My assistants, Austin Moody and James Jones. Junior and Brenda Williams, Ann Dozier, Mrs. Marguerite Overton, Betty Overton King, Dick and Lenore Irons, Father Crow, Rev. Jimmy O'Bryant, and last, but certainly not least, David Williams. Only yesterday, David scurried up a ladder, hanging on the side of the church in the blowing wind, to raise and secure the star and cross for all to behold. He restored my faith in mankind!!
Now let us give thanks to the Pastor, pianist, musicians, readers, lectors, servers, cleaners and cooks all working in one accord to bring you our guests, and regulars, a memorable Christmas Celebration in an old, historical church located in rural Wilcox County. Now aren't you glad you took the time to travel to God's House for this joyous occasion? Do come again, we are here every fifth Sunday service at 11 A.M., the fourth Sunday in May for Homecoming, and again next year one week before Christmas for "Blessings of Christmas Celebration.” May the Peace of Our Lord remain in your heart always. Wishing you a Memorable Christmas! Thomas E. Hale, The Magnolias, Magnolia, AL
Adam Bennett and Sarah Cox provide lovely Christmas music.
