ART GREEN holds the framed copy of the original Muster Roll of Company B, 38th Alabama, which he donated to the LPT archives. His grandfather, John C. Green, was one of the 88 men who enlisted in the unit at Lower Peach Tree. Pvt. John Green went to war in April 1862, was wounded and captured in 1864. After spending the remainder of the war in prison in Ohio he walked home to Packer's Bend.

Company B named themselves the "Wilcox Farmers." Of the 88 men who enlisted there were 37 who did not come home. Captain Ripley Welsh was killed on the first day of fighting at Chickamauga. Many died of sickness and many died in battle. Some died in northern prisons and are buried there. Grove Hill was the site of a recent reunion of decendents of members of the regiment.
